Man driving stolen car tries to hide on resident’s property: Shaker Heights police blotter
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio —
Reckless Operation: Parkland Drive
At 4:15 a.m. on August 5, officers were alerted by an automated license plate reader that a Hyundai vehicle traveling in the Lee Road and Scottsdale Boulevard area had been reported stolen outside the city of Cleveland.
Shortly after, officers located the vehicle. The car, however, fled when officers attempted to carry out a traffic check. Officers searched the area and located the car parked in a driveway in the 17000 block of Fernway Road and arrested a 19-year-old Cleveland male. The man was found hiding on the property without the knowledge of the owner.
Officers will charge the suspect with receiving possession, reckless operation and other traffic violations.
Domestic Violence: Weybridge Road
At 4:15 p.m. on August 6, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Weybridge Road, where a Shaker Heights man, 73, and a Shaker Heights woman, 53, reported that their son, 16 years, hit his mother and threatened his father.
Both parents refused medical treatment. The police arrested the boy for domestic violence.
Threatening: Boulevard Van Aken
At 10:45 p.m. on August 6, officers were dispatched to the 16000 block of Van Aken Boulevard, where a 74-year-old Shaker Heights woman and an 80-year-old Shaker Heights man reported that a Shaker man 57-year-old Heights, who had previously infiltrated their building, threatened to harm them.
The suspect was arrested for threats and trespassing.
Criminal Trespass: Ingleside Road
At 6:15 p.m. on August 8, police were dispatched to the 3000 block of Ingleside Road, where a 32-year-old Shaker Heights woman reported that a 20-year-old Shaker Heights woman was entered his residence without his permission. Officers found the young woman and summoned her for criminal trespassing.
Theft: Van Aken Boulevard
At 10:55 a.m. on August 8, police were called to the Walgreen’s store at 20200 Van Aken Blvd., where the manager reported that a suspect had stolen property and walked out of the store.
Officers located the suspect, a 68-year-old resident of Niles, Ohio, and summoned him for theft. Officers recovered over $62 worth of merchandise and returned it to the store.
Arrest Warrant: Lee Road
At 1 a.m. on August 10, officers observed a Kia car driving in the Lee Road and Lomond Boulevard area with only one working headlight. A traffic stop was conducted and officers learned that the passenger in the car, a 20-year-old Cleveland man, was wanted on a warrant from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for carrying a concealed weapon.
The warrant was confirmed and Shaker Heights police turned the suspect over to county deputies without incident.
Domestic Violence: Fairhill Road
At 8 a.m. on August 10, officers were called to the 12000 block of Fairhill Road, where a 23-year-old Shaker Heights woman reported that the father of her 32-year-old child l pushed during an argument, then left their apartment.
The woman had bruises on her head and advised officers she would seek medical attention. Police have issued an arrest warrant for the man.
Breach of Protective Order: Van Aken Blvd.
At 4:20 p.m. on August 10, a 74-year-old woman, who lives in the 16000 block of Van Aken Boulevard, reported that a Shaker Heights man, 57, against whom she has a restraining order for threatened earlier in the week, had returned to her apartment building.
Officers located the man and arrested him for breach of a protective order.
OVI: Westbury Road
At 2am on August 11, police were dispatched to the 3000 block of Westbury Road to assist a motorist whose car was damaged. At the scene, officers discovered the 25-year-old Cleveland woman had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
Officers found a handgun in the woman’s possession. After the woman failed field sobriety tests, police arrested her for OVI and possession of a weapon while intoxicated. The woman was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.155, above the state minimum for drunk driving of 0.08.
