Rail passengers on the Bendigo line will soon benefit from upgrades to station car parks to improve accessibility and safety. Ace Infrastructure has been awarded the contract to design and build 440 new and upgraded car parks at Kyneton, Gisborne, Riddells Creek, North Shore and Beaufort stations. Once completed, passengers on the Bendigo line will have access to 200 parking spaces, including additional accessible parking, and 35 new bike racks. All new and upgraded car parks will be covered by CCTV and lighting for safety and security. Last year the community was invited to provide feedback on the concept designs for all car parks via the Engage Victoria platform. Feedback received will help inform the final designs. Civil construction company Ace Infrastructure has significant experience in providing station car parks, having already built car parks in several locations including Sandown Park, Hurstbridge and Castlemaine. Ace Infrastructure has also completed car park upgrades at Kyneton and Gisborne stations. The new and upgraded car park is provided by VicTrack as part of the Government of Victoria’s ‘Car Parks for Commuters’ program – building and upgrading car parks at stations to make it easier to catch the train. State Public Transportation Minister Ben Carroll said nearly 14,000 new and improved parking spaces have been delivered to stations across the state since 2014, providing an additional 7,000 spaces. “We’re providing thousands of new and improved parking spaces at stations across the state, allowing more people to access rail services to get them where they need to go,” Carroll said. “The new and improved car parks will help people in the Victoria area access their local station and will significantly improve safety with lighting and CCTV.” For more information on the Car Parks for Commuters program visit carparks.vic.gov.au Our journalists work hard to bring local, up-to-date news to the community.
